Frequently Asked Questions

Reginald James

Who are your favorite actors?

Unfortunately, my favorites of all-time are both dead - Cary Grant and Bette Davis.

I'm a long time fan of Michelle Pfeiffer. She's my original, modern-day fave. Big time.

Geoffery Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Julianne Moore, and Edward Norton.

Sean Penn.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, one of the best of my contemporaries.

What's your favorite movie?

I have more than one. My "fave" of all time list would be: Rocky, Aliens, Singin' in the Rain, Bringing Up Baby, Ninotchka, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer, My Man Godfrey, and Philadelphia Story

Fave music?

Ani DiFranco (fave artist), Michael Jackson, Tori Amos (although the streak has pretty much ended since I haven't bought her last three albums), Sting, Manhattan Transfer (fave group), Bjork.

Nikka Costa is the shit live - better live than on wax (yeah, that's what I said) and it's hard to say that about anyone these days. That woman can flat out sing. Performance wise, she's untouchable. I don't know anyone out there today who can rock, roll, or blues it up like her. I saw her live recently and not only did she put on a kick-ass show, she did it pregnant. She is sooooooo hot pregnant.

"Old" Teena Marie (one of the most underrated and overlooked performers ever) leaves me speechless..."Fire and Desire" (with Rick James), "Shadow Boxing," "Out on a Limb," Cassanova Brown," "Portuguese Love," and "Dear Lover" slays me ... and now she's gone.

Are you a collector of anything?

I used to collect Wheaties cereal boxes with Michael Jordan on the front. I have a huge Madonna magazine cover collection from the 80's and early '90's. I casually horde Miami Dolphin stuff, which is my favorite pro football team.

Is there a director you would like to work with in the future?

John Sayles, primarily because he seems not to be influenced by the system. He maintains his independence from the Hollywood cookie cutter while producing great films. However, I would love to do a John Woo flick too! That would be great!

Working with Christopher Guest would probably be a really fun experience.

Zhang Yimou and Pedro Almodovar are my favorite directors.
