Youngstown Native Makes It To The Big Screen
By John W. Goodwin Jr.

Youngstown talent can be seen in a nationally released motion picture. The movie was released several weeks ago and can be seen at Cinema South Theater in Youngstown.

Reginald James, previously known to some as Reginald Humphrey, plays Felix Darling in the Miramax motion picture "Hav Plenty." This romantic comedy examines how relationships can befuddle otherwise intelligent men and women. James plays the husband of Leigh Darling, a woman who falls in love with a down and out novelist. According to James, the initial concept of the movie is taken from the real life experiences of one of the movies affiliates.

"Hav Plenty" may be the first national release for James, but this young, charismatic, entertainer is no stranger to the camera. He can be seen in two nationally released Burger King restaurant commercials. James also has a reoccurring role on "As The World Turns" as bartender Frank Corbin and received his soap opera debut as a wedding guest on "All My Children." James spoke fondly of one independent film entitled "Down," in which he had the lead role. The movie was not released due to a lack of funding and casting problems.

James has also starred in a list of theatrical performances while pursuing his career in film. He has played Lucio in "Measure For Measure" in Manhattan. He also has played Larry in "Ruthy" at the African Globe Theater in Newark. For this performance James received an "African Globe Award."

Despite his recent success with "Hav Plenty" James is not riding the high horse. He sees this as the natural progression he has been waiting for. "My reaction is tempered because folks are surprised, but when I was in school I dreamed it and knew that this is where I wanted to be," he said.

James also said this is no time to sit back and relax, he wants to keep on moving. "I am looking down the road. Bring me the next thing," he said. According to James, the fundamental priority is to work as much as possible. He said you (entertainers) just have to do it, get in there and work. The advice James gives to aspiring actors is to be aware of your skills/talents, being realistic with yourself and work on areas that may need improvement.

James was born and lived in Youngstown until the age of 13. He spent his teenage years between Youngstown and North Carolina. He attended school at the University of Michigan and moved to New York in 1994 where he resides today.
